My response to the rumble
I would like to start this mini review by asking one thing that has been troubling me .. why was Michael Cole even there?? King was there for the Raw team and Matt Striker (I miss JR :-( ) was there for the little league/Smackdown team. So why was Michael Cole and his awful attempt at commentary even there? I mean seriously .. how can he be that bad at commentating? He's been with the company for so long but seemingly knows nothing at all about wrestling or how to call a match. I think I should start a petition to have him FIIIIIRRRRREEEDDD! (yes .. that was my Vince impression)
Ok .. review time. The ECW title match. Well .. the best bit of the match was the animation at the start where the phoenix and title belt appeared on the screen. A pretty standard match. Nice to see Christian win with his unprettier or Killswitch Engage as its called now.
Miz vs MVP for the US title. Or the "US United States Championship" as Matt Striker thought it was called. Shall be sending that to Botchamania :-). Another boring match, not at all of PPV quality. Miz winning by a roll-up .. hmm .. never seen that before! Got to say .. I think that's the first time the good guy from that match has attacked the heel after the match is over only to be booed out of the arena!
How ridiculous did the ring announcer sound when he announced the Seamus / Orton match! Someone please find Lilian Garcia and beg her to come back! I'm not a big fan of the Ronald McDonald lookalike that is Seamus. Well .. I guess there's not much to like. I do however like watching Randy Orton. Let me just add .. I don't like watching him wrestle because all he really does is put headlocks on. But I do like to look at him :-). I was hoping he would win the title back just so we could move on from the Seamus era but sadly it was not to be. Cody Rhodes attacked Seamus and got Randy (I think intentionally) DQ'd. Leading to Randy attacking his Legacy boys. I'm assuming this is building up to an Orton / Dibase match at some point in the future as the WWE do seem to keep pushing Ted.
A very very quick 1-2-3 match for the Womens title with Mickie James picking up the win. And a diva cake fight! Maria and Kelly Kelly covered in cake .. what an excellent image! I personally wish the WWE would drop the PG-13 shit and let the "divas" be sexy again. I mean like proper sexy! When I really got into wrestling there were wrestlers Trish Stratus (who I had a poster of on my bedroom wall), Lita, Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson who were incredibly sexy, suggestive and could actually wrestle. If only the WWE would bring those days back and let us see that women are capable of wrestling (and I mean more than 5 over-choreographed, badly executed moves in a match) and were super hot.
I was not looking forward to the Taker vs Rey match for a number of reasons. I've grown very bored of Taker over the last year since his storylines have all been exactly the same and it seems all he does is wrestle a bit, disappear, the druids bring him back for a big PPV, same match again and then restart the cycle. I know he's on a part time schedule and that he's due for retirement soon but its still very annoying to always see the same thing. As for Rey .. I used to be a very big fan before he started main-eventing. I love luchadors and I love high fliers so watching Rey used to be great. But since they put him at the top of the card its just been a case of quot;how many david vs golliath matches can we possibly get" and for the most part they are just boring! As for the match .. Taker retained with a Last Ride (can't remember the last time I saw him get one and then get a pin) after Rey hit a double 619 .. so I'm guessing thats a 1238?
Now .. the rumble match. I saw on the WWE site that only 25 guys had been announced so assumed at least one wrestler would be returning. I thought to myself about half way through .. I wonder if it will be Edge. Grrr sometimes I hate being psychic! I was hoping for someone super awesome to come back. I had a "why Shawn why" moment when he super-kicked HHH out of the rumble. I am really really not ready for the end of DX yet!! Now .. I want some opinions here. I was thinking to myself during the match that I wonder what would happen if the person who's supposed to win accidently gets eliminated? To me it seemed that Shawn was not supposed to get eliminated by Batista and I would go as far as to say I think he was scheduled to win. Everything seemed very confused and just kinda stopped after he fell off the apron. So .. what do you think? Was he supposed to win?
As I said in my last blog .. I wanted HHH or Shawn to win. But out of the final 3 I'm glad it was Edge that won just for a bit of a shakeup. I've seen a lot of Cena title matches and I don't have much interest in Batista so for the best of a bad bunch I'm glad it was him.
What did you all think of it?
